Yesterday morning, the United States Bureau of Reclamation announced that water users with proratable water rights, including the Kennewick Irrigation District (KID) would see an increase to 94% from the previous prorationed amount of 90%. Increases may be partially attributed to milder temperatures.

At this point in the water season, water allotments are not anticipated to drop. However, KID reminds our customers and community that conditions can change rapidly and we continue to encourage customers to practice water efficient habits. We suggest the following: consider planting low-water vegetation, replace lawn grass with Xeriscaping, reduce total number of watering days per week and limit duration to no longer than 30 minutes per zone. Additionally, high efficiency devices, such as micro spray and drip line irrigation help reduce overwatering and apply water where it is needed.
