KID serves an estimated 65,000 residents in Tri-Cities, over 20,200 acres, and about half of that acreage is agricultural production. The Yakima River is the sole source of KID’s water supply.

The Yakima Basin Integrated Water Resource Management Plan (IP) brings together stakeholders, including the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Department of Ecology, Yakama Nation, irrigation districts, cities, counties, and environmental interests, to implement projects intended to restore depressed salmonid populations and increase the water supply for farmers and cities in the Yakima River basin. While KID supports the broad goals of the IP, the district has serious concerns about how the plan is being implemented.

The current implementation of the IP reduces the water supply of KID and its customers.
