Here is a behind the scenes look at one of the challenges we battle during the hot summer months. The district spends over $330,000 per year just in chemicals to control algae growth. Once the treatment is completed, it breaks apart the algae causing it to flow down to the weed screens (as pictured). This treatment is in compliance with the Department of Ecology regulations.
While crews work to reduce the amount of algae in our canals, small pieces of the algae may find their way into water users’ systems. We recommend customers check their filters and systems for blockages.
