Ratepayers are invited to learn about the study and hear recommendations

Kennewick, WA (May 17, 2011)—The Kennewick Irrigation District Board of Directors will hold a special meeting with the Water Rate Advisory Committee on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 6:00 p.m., in the KID Board Room (12 W. Kennewick Avenue). The purpose of the meeting is to learn about recommendations from Gordon Wilson of Financial Consulting Solutions Group, Inc. on possible changes to the KID rate structure.

Tim Berk, Water Rate Advisory Committee member said, “This workshop is the first opportunity for the public to receive information on the study and offer suggestions to the KID Board of Directors and Committee.”

Financial Consulting Solutions has worked closely with KID’s Water Rate Advisory Committee for over a year analyzing the District’s actual cost of service to various customer types. The Committee is made up of community members representing different customer types, who volunteered to study the rate structure of the District.

Future adjustments to the rate structure will not result in any additional KID revenue. KID is a non-profit governmental entity and collects only the fees needed to operate and maintain the District’s irrigation system.

KID’s Board of Directors will not implement changes to the current rate structure immediately. David McKenzie, KID Board President said, “The Board has made a commitment to finding the best approach for serving our community as well as listening to the opinions of KID’s customers.”

The Kennewick Irrigation District was organized in 1917. KID serves agricultural and residential customers within parts of Kennewick, Richland, West Richland and Benton County. The KID’s water right comes from the Yakima River and is granted by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. KID provides irrigation water to approximately 22,000 landowners across 20,201 acres.
