During Tuesday’s Board Meeting, David McKenzie was declared elected to Kennewick Irrigation District Director Position 3, by virtue of being unopposed for the seat. The three year term was up for election this year, but as of the statutory filing deadline, incumbent, David McKenzie, was the only candidate to submit a petition for nomination and declaration of candidacy, and thus was unopposed.
As established by Revised Code of Washington 87.03.075, if, after the deadline for filing petitions of nomination only one qualified candidate has been nominated, it is not necessary to hold an election and the irrigation board of directors is to declare the single candidate elected as director.
